UEGCL Attends World Environment Day Celebrations In Kabaale.
We were honored to take part in the national events marking World Environment Day in Kabale District. This year’s gatherings fell under the powerful theme “United Against Plastic Pollution,” underscoring the critical need for collective action to combat plastic waste. In Uganda alone, approximately 600 metric tonnes of plastic waste are produced every single day, an alarming statistic that highlights the urgency of the situation.
At UEGCL, environmental and social responsibility are core to everything we do. We are deeply committed to promoting Sustainability in both environmental and social spheres, and our efforts span multiple, coordinated initiatives:
- Source-Level Waste Segregation
We ensure waste is carefully separated at its source, making subsequent recycling and disposal more efficient. - Professional Waste Management
We’ve implemented comprehensive, professionally managed systems for handling waste safely and responsibly. - Comprehensive Environmental Policy
A robust environmental policy guides our operations, ensuring alignment with best practices and sustainability goals. - Community Partnerships
Working hand-in-hand with local communities, we support and participate in environmental awareness campaigns and clean-up efforts. - Reservoir Stabilization through Tree Planting
To prevent erosion and preserve water bodies, we actively plant trees along the shores of our reservoirs and water catchments. - Development of ESG Strategy & Capacity Building
We are rolling out a thorough Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) policy and strategy—complete with training programs to build internal expertise. - Investment in Renewable Energy (Floating Solar)
In line with our commitment to clean energy, we are exploring and investing in floating solar technologies to minimize carbon emissions and harness renewable power. - Intentional Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Our CSR initiatives are more than token donations; they are thoughtfully designed programs aimed at making a real, positive impact on the communities we serve. - Enhancing Community Livelihoods
We support community access to essential resources and livelihood opportunities, helping families thrive sustainably.
