Breaking Through Biases: Mrs. Lorna Magara’s Leadership Wisdom for UEGCL Mentees.
The dedicated and motivated ladies participating in the UEGCL Mentorship Program had the incredible privilege of engaging in an enlightening session with Mrs. Lorna Magara. Mrs. Magara is not only the esteemed Chairperson of the Makerere University Council, but she is also the proud proprietor of Vine International Christian Academy, making her a remarkable figure in both education and leadership.
During her session, which was centered around the inspiring theme of “Breaking Through Biases to Succeed in Leadership,” Mrs. Magara passionately urged the mentees to fully embrace the concept of continuous learning. She emphasized the importance of leading with emotional intelligence and adhering to ethical principles, which are essential qualities in any successful leader today. Additionally, she encouraged the young women to adopt a servant leadership mindset, which focuses on the well-being of others as the primary goal of leadership.
Furthermore, Mrs. Magara shared her wisdom by reminding the ladies that they should always be proactive, saying they need to “go out and look for the fish” instead of passively waiting for opportunities to come to them. She instilled in them the idea of leading with a mindset of generational influence, meaning their impact could transcend their immediate environment and shape the future. To illustrate her points, she drew from her own experiences, revealing how resilience, emotional intelligence, and a deep faith in God have been the cornerstones of her impressive leadership journey. Through her words, she inspired the mentees to cultivate these qualities within themselves, so they too can thrive in their respective paths to leadership.
