Amazima School-Njeri Tours Nalubaale-Kiira Hydro Power Complex
On June 18, 2025, we hosted an enlightening and hands-on educational tour for the Senior Four students from Amazima School – Njeru. The group received an up-close, behind-the-scenes exploration of the historic and vital Nalubaale–Kiira Hydropower Complex, located in Jinja.
The tour commenced with a comprehensive safety induction conducted by the Safety Officer. Visitors were briefed on key safety procedures, hazard awareness, and emergency protocols, ensuring a secure learning environment before entering the operational areas. The study tour aimed to translate classroom learning into real-world understanding. Students were exposed to the entire hydropower generation process, from diverting Nile waters into the intake to generating electricity in the turbine halls, and monitoring systems in the control rooms. The experience was designed to deepen their appreciation of engineering science, environmental stewardship, and energy infrastructure.
Led by our Technical Support Officer, students toured water intake systems to understand the journey of water from Lake Victoria to the turbines, and generator halls, where mechanical energy is converted into electricity, and the control room, for high-tech demonstrations of system monitoring, flow regulation, and safety oversight.
The tour was followed by a rich Q&A session that allowed students to pose insightful questions from the student whose curiosity fostered meaningful dialogue and real-world connections to topics in physics, environmental science, and sustainable energy.
This experience was sealed off with a joyous group photo, capturing the smiles and camaraderie of a day filled with discovery, dialogue, and inspiration.
